Q: What white cover promos exist?
A: White cover promos definitely known to exist:
"Get Your Gunn" (High School Drop-outs), nothing/Interscope PRCD 5781-2. One track only. Also known: (Edited for Television) version, PRCD 5722-2, also one track only. It's not known at this time if these are different mixes, or identical versions with different names.
Q: Has anyone tracked down the sources of the samples on "Portrait" and in the band's other material?
A: Well, not all of them, but here are some:
o "Come and get your lollipops" and "If there are children here, my friend, you will die!" in "Organ Grinder" - The Child-Snatcher from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"
o "Burn (you fuckers!)" in "Dogma" - Mink Stole as Connie Marble in John Waters' "Pink Flamingos." Complete line "Burn, you fucker, burn!" used in one of the cassette versions.
o "Go home to your mother!" rant at end of LP - Mink Stole again, this time in "Desperate Living"
o beginning of "Down in the Park" - from John Carpenter film "Prince of Darkness"
o "The Great Hoodoo..." and "Prepare to meet your doom!" in "Dope Hat" -from 70's kids' TV show "Lidsville" (voice of Charles Nelson Reilly)
o "Who put the goddam hat on the bed" - Matt Dillon from "Drugstore Cowboy"
o opening scream and Little Man's laughter in "Wrapped In Plastic"- from "Twin Peaks"
o "beep beep" sequence in "Misery Machine" - the Playmates' golden-oldie "Beep Beep"
o "Where's the chocolate?," "nobody ever comes in and nobody ever goes out," "little surprises around every corner but nothing dangerous", and probably others in "Choklit Factory" - all from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
o "Those fucking bitches..." and "Thanks for killing my mom" in the demo track "Number 9" are from the 1980's film "Desparate Teenage Lovedolls."
Q: How can I get them?
A: As they were issued in very small runs ("Refrigerator" was only 100 copies) it'll be difficult, if not nearly impossible, to track down an original - though probably worth trying. Copies can probably be obtained through trading circles. They are no longer available from the band or from Satan's Bakesale. --Two of these early tracks, "Suicide Snowman" and "White Knuckles," have been suggested by Mr. Manson (during his 11/95 SPIN Online session) as likely to appear on MM's forthcoming second LP, though whether in original or new versions is not known.
